Doma Case Review : MYOPENPC DOMA Pro PCI Black Transparent Acrylic Open Computer Case for ATX/mATX/ITX Mainboards, compatible with ATX/mATX PSU - PC components not included
I purchased two Doma cases from myOpenPC. They were delivered promptly with installation instructions and complete set of nuts and bolts to construct the case as it is shown. It is relatively small in size in comparison to other PC cases and the doma case is horizontal in nature as opposed to vertical configuration for most PC cases. It also came with couple of push button switches (on/off and reset) and LED indicators (power and disk), which connects to the motherboard. It is ideally suited for a hide-away shelf or a cupboard placement with wireless keyboard/mouse usage.
The idea behind this product is outstanding, but in practice, while the product itself cannot be considered defective as shipped, it falls quite a bit short of delivering the idea to its fruition. This is because the manufacturing details are fraught with inconsistencies, inaccuracies and frailties.
The doma case comes in pieces, which must be assembled as expected, but the jigsaw like pieces from one case were slightly different than the same pieces from the second case. It was as if I had received one case made from template A and another case made from template B. While the template A's triangular risers (one on each side that holds the back plate and the floor piece) had more elaborate notches to accommodate nuts and bolts, the other template had no such consideration. As result, the assembly of template B's case could not use all the nuts and bolts as prescribed by the instruction which accompanied it.
The second problem is more systemic. The nuts and bolts suppose to hold separate acrylic plates together to form a strong base on which power supply, mother board and such are to be placed and held firmly together. However, in reality, one cannot tighten the bolts enough, without breaking the acrylic surface, to eliminate the play between the acrylic plates. In addition, the hard and DVD drives are mounted by a pair of Acrylic plates on either side. The tops of the acrylic sides are slid though the bottom of the case and locked in place by a sliding hinge (another acrylic piece). The problem is these sliding hinges use the same nuts and bolts, which does a terrible job of locking down. The result is the hard drive and DVD drive mounts constantly falls out from the bottom of the case onto the floor whenever the PC is moved.
Lastly, the accompanying switches are extremely fragile. Even after they are installed, they often pop out of their little square pen and the switching mechanism frequently fails. It is certainly not made for frequent use. Also, if you have multiple hard drives and considered purchasing a separate acrylic hard drive mount from the same vendor; understand that you do not have a place to attach the hard drive mount to the case. The case was a tight fit for my microATA motherboard, power supply, hard/DVD drives (under the main planar board) and nothing else.
Final analysis; I had to use it because of my space restrictions, but if that was not the case, I would have returned the product due to sloppy construction and flimsy electronics.

As result of my aforementioned product review, I was contacted by the president of the MyOpenPC company with regrets of the unexpected defects. Subsequently he had sent a replacement case, which arrived via express mail from over seas. I'm rather impressed that a small sale, such as mine, would draw an attention from the top executive. It is worthwhile noting that this company clearly cares about their product and has shown their willingness to satisfy their customer base even after the sale has completed, which I find rare and admirable.
